The BBC's Christmas/New Years plans have come out. Torchwood Series 2
is clearly launching in January - either Wednesday at 9PM or Sunday
at 9PM on BBC Two (most of the evidence is for Wednesday). Potential
premiere dates are 16 or 23 January (if a Wednesday), 13 or 20
January (if a Sunday). Wednesday 16 January at 9PM is the most
popular prediction right now. The schedule for 12 to 18 January
should be published this coming Friday, so we may have definitive
news before the next edition of Torchwood This Week comes out. What
we know:
Episodes premiere - BBC Two and BBC HD
Episodes repeat - BBC Three
Torchwood DeClassified - BBC Three
Torchwood Pre-Watershed - BBC Two
The last one is a new twist. Since a large portion of younger Doctor
Who fans will want to see more of Captain Jack and Martha (Freema
Agyeman being in 3 episodes of Torchwood), a slightly edited "pre-
watershed" version of the show will air several days after the
official episodes. "Pre-watershed" is not the same as Family (Doctor
Who's designation) or CBBC (Sarah Jane's designation). But it does
mean that the edited versions of the episodes can air before 9PM.
Edits to sexual content, nudity, language, and violence are expected.
The unedited versions airing at 9PM or later remain the official
Torchwood episodes, and will be the ones sold overseas.
BBC America http://www.bbcamerica.com launches Series 2 of Torchwood on Saturday 26 January 2008 at 9PM Eastern, a date expected to be very soon after the UK premiere of the new series. The early launch is due to Torchwood's status as BBC America's most successful show ever. BBC America is repeating Series 1 on Saturdays starting 8 December - 2 episodes per weekend, covering the 7 weeks before the Series 2 launch. HD Net http://www.hd.net airs the uncensored and unedited Series 1 finale this Monday and Wednesday.
BBC America On Demand will take down the Torchwood Series 1 episodes
from the service on Monday 17 December. Captain Jack Harkness will
only be up for 3 weeks and End Of Days up for 2 weeks, instead of the
usual 4. This is standard with BBC America shows - they leave the on
demand service shortly after the current run of new episodes ends.
Series 2 will likely start going up on Monday 28 January.
UKTV Australia will launch Torchwood on Tuesday 11 December at 8:30PM AEDT. If you missed Torchwood on Ten or its regional variants, you get another chance to tune in.
Ten HD (a new version of Ten for high definition TVs that launches in
December) will present Torchwood free to air for high definition TVs
Thursdays at 9:30PM from 20 December. It is part of a Thursday lineup
that deviates from Ten's regular schedule.
Doctor Who schedule information is in This Week In Doctor Who
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/thisweekindoctorwho .
I am trying to find websites and station information for some of the
more elusive Torchwood sales. If you spot it airing or getting ready
to air in your country, and I've missed it, let me know so it gets
into the next edition and more fans get informed.
